80-minute television interview with Alexandre Kalache,
Roda Viva is arguably Brazil’s foremost opinion-forming television programme. The interviewee sits on a swivel chair in a sunken arena surrounded by journalists/academics on all sides and responds to their questions in quick-fire rounds. Multiple cameras surround the arena so the guest is always facing one of them. Interviewees are both prominent Brazilians and non-Brazilians. The Brazilian guests have included most of the recent Presidents. Foreign guests have included political figures such as Fidel Castro and Hugo Chavez, innovators such as Jimmy Wales and Nobel prize-winning writers such as Jose Saramago and Mario Vargas Llosa. The January 2019 interview was the second time that Kalache was the guest interviewee on Roda Viva. His previous interview was recorded in 2006.
