Age-friendly Initiatives

With support of a research grant of FAPERJ, the State Research Funding Agency, we developed a new methodology protocol to guide the implementation of one of the first and most important steps to become an age-friendly city or community: a baseline assessment of its age-friendliness. In practice, we work with local governments, academia and civil society partners, as well as the private sector, to establish this assessment and to put into place the core mechanisms required to develop, implement and monitor an action plan aimed a turning the city or community more age-friendly.

Besides taking an intersectorial approach, involving partners from all parts of society, our methodology takes an intergenerational approach, engaging not only older but also younger citizens and pays particular attention to include the voices of frail older persons and other marginalized groups.
